SLTC Research University joins with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs Introduces an Applied IT Degree Program -Supports the passionate youth unable to take a standard route to earn an IT degree

SLTC Research University, together with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, recently marked the launch of a special 3 year IT degree program that’s designed to support the youth who are passionate about Information Technology but unable to take a standard route to pursue higher education in the subject.
The official launch of the new degree program and the MoU signing between relevant parties took place at the SLTC Research University’s City Campus Auditorium at the TRACE Expert City in Maradana, graced by the presence of Roshan Ranasinghe, Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media and Kanaka Herath, State Minister of Technology.
‘Over the past, we have observed that many youth carry great potential to excel in Information Technology though they are not in a position to pursue higher education in it through standard routes. We wanted to ensure that this talent doesn’t go to waste and our objective in this initiative is to absorb them through the creation of a degree program that’s tailor made for them.’’ Said, Ranjith Rubasinghe, Founder President/CEO, SLTC Research University speaking of the new degree program.
The new degree program is designed more as an applied IT program as opposed to a typical academic degree program in IT and will be imparted through the regional centers of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Youth Corp and the Youth Council. Whilst SLTC Research University takes the Academic Leadership for the program, collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs has made it possible to reach out to youth around the country in numbers and provide the program at a nominal fee.
‘This degree program has been designed, taking into account the particular needs of this segment of youth. Hence, it is more of a vocational degree and even a working individual can easily fit in and manage studies. It needs to be specially noted that it’s offered at a nominal fee, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs which has generously allocated its resources and capacities for the success of this initiative’’ Rubasinghe further added. SLTC Research University and the Ministry of Youth Affairs are of the view that this new degree program will act as a catalyst for many youth with potential to embark on long, successful journeys in Information Technology. Being employability focused, the program is expected to create a new breed of skilled IT professionals and entrepreneurs and support national development in a significant way.
