Supporting Sri Lanka
“Whilst the country grapples to find solutions to the burning issues of the nation, we remain positive and support Sri Lanka’s quest to solve the foreign currency issue by ensuring that leading IT/ BPO Companies can take more back-end business from the global market”, said Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, Board Member of APIIT.
“I am proud that APIIT is taking the high ground in this regard, as what Sri Lanka requires is support at this crucial juncture” said Bandula Egodage, Chairman, APIIT. “Each of us have to do our part to get the country back on track”he added. Egodage is also the Chairman of the Industrial Association of Sri Lanka and Vice President of Nestle.
The pandemic saw many global companies developing strategies to combat a total shut down of their business.
This resulted in many top software solution providers moving parts of their operations to Sri Lanka, which has resulted in the increase in demand for Sri Lankan IT professionals.
Increased Demand for IT Degrees in Sri Lanka
“The Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology( APIIT) had to close registration for the year 2022 almost two weeks early as the demand for IT Degrees exceeded the supply at the campus”, said Dr. Athukorala.
Creating Job-ready Graduates
“We want to retain high quality levels so that our graduates are not only academically strong but also have a high degree of soft skills which will provide an advantage to Sri Lanka” he said.
The weekly APIIT MBA Diary is a unique highlight that allows students to learn from some of the best CEOs in corporate Sri Lanka. It also allows IT organisations to conduct weekly soft skills trainings and provide students with international updates from the IT industry.
The new ethos of running a business is to focus on the ‘ purpose’ and this allows the business model to evolve with time. This model is inculcated at APIIT, ensuring that students acquire the skills needed to excel upon graduation.
“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the world saw the largest transition from traditional living to digitalisation. Now more than ever, most industries rely on data and software programs. IT and various aspects of computer sciences impact all industries, starting from education and moving across all other areas including finance, health and even transportation! We no longer can fathom a world without a Wi-Fi network and access to Google” he said in conclusion.
