Resilience building & innovative leadership program MSU & MSI

“In the midst of all odds due to the calamity of Covid-19 pandemic Sri Lanka’s Travel and Tourism Industry has been seriously affected, the biggest challenge has become to bring the people to the industry. The continuous silence, lockdown, virtual learning sans interaction and isolation has made the minds of the individuals into a pessimistic role. The physical Teaching Learning process got transcended into a fully virtual set-up. Due to lack of activities, exposure and socialisation the society has got into a lethargic situation. However, the bad experience in the past should not be carried forward for the future,” said, Sam Peries; Director of MSI at the “Resilience Building and Innovative Leadership Program” organised by Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management students at the Management &Science Institute Colombo.
The Management and Science Institute is the branch of the Management & Science University (MSU) Malaysia and MSU ranked among Top 601 on QS World University Rankings 2022 and Top 301 for QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2022. MSI Colombo
Students did a versatile event of Motivational and Leadership Program on November 22 and 23, 2021 organised by the students pursuing the Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management, with the guidance of The President and Vice Chancellor of Management and Science University (MSU) Malaysia.
The Ceremonial inauguration was marked as the first phase of the event on the November 22, 2021 from 9.00 am onwards at MSI Auditorium with Chief Executive Officer – Destination Management sector at John Keels Holdings PLC, Nalaka Amarathunga and other industry leaders as guests. The immense knowledge and experience were shared by the dignified leaders of motivational talks with thoughts of optimism and resilience.
Their main objective is to motivate students with adequate knowledge and understanding about the current situation of the Tourism Industry and how to overcome barriers by offering undergraduate students an insight into Sustainable Leadership Management along with valuable advice on leadership and entrepreneurship skills. Moreover, the program catered undergraduate students with knowledge and innovation capabilities to adhere into the new normal situation in the world; especially, how to develop soft skills for Management, Leadership in Wellness Management and Leadership in Hospitality Management. This event also focused to attract more young women and showcasing the power and role of women leaders to the industry.
Motivational speeches were delivered by Sam Peiris the Director of MSI, Chinthana Dumiduhewa Specialist – Tourism and Sustainable Development, Ruwan Rathnayake Managing Director of Beyond Escapes and Leopard Nest, Suranga Tennakoon Lectures and Leadership and Motivational Speaker, Ali Idroos the Lecturer and Program Manager of MSI and Saman Rathnayake the Personal Trainer of The Regent Country Club.
Final stage of the program was the beach cleaning campaign which was taken place at Mount Lavinia Beach on the following day from 3.0 p.m. onwards, getting the involvement from communities and stakeholders.
