Finland support for Educational Reforms in Sri Lanka

A workshop was conducted at the National Institute of Education in Maharagama recently regarding the capabilities and the importance of adopting Finland’s Education Methods to the new educational reforms to be introduced in Sri Lanka shortly. This workshop was held for three (3) days. Finland’s delegation consisted of eight Educationists from Finland under the leadership of Vice Dean of the Educational Sciences Faculty of the Helsinki University and Professor of Teacher Education Mrs. Leena Krokfors.
Objective of this workshop was to guide the Sri Lankan educationists and the officers of the National Institute of Education regarding the adoption of Finland’s educational methods which is considered as world’s most progressive and highest quality educational method into the educational reforms to be introduced to our country, using them for the school curriculum and formation of multipurpose classrooms.
It was further discussed that children should be allowed to learn rather than to teach them from pre-school education onwards, how to deploy teachers for primary education and how to make children follow their education as per their skills. In this workshop it was further emphasised how the education in our country should be reformed remodeling the Secondary, vocational and University Education.
Speaking at the workshop, Director General of National Institute of Education Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne said that everything is ready to start a new chapter in our country’s education through the National Institute of Education with the participation of the Ministry of Education as per the policy statement of the President.
Representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Officials of the Ministry of Education and Department of Examinations and Educationists participated in this workshop.
