Asian Development Bank supports educational projects

Director General (South Asia) of the Asian Development Bank Kenichi Yokoyama met the Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena on September 30, .09.202 at the Ministry of Education in Isurupaya.
Director General of the Asian Development Bank said plans are being made to hold the next Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank in Sri Lanka and Minister Gunawardena said it will be an honour to Sri Lanka.
Education Minister Dinesh Gunwardena thanked the Asian Development Bank Director General for the aid provided amounting to US Dollars 400 million under the ‘Secondary Education Sector Development Program’ being implemented by the Asian Development Bank towards the development of General Education and Higher Education sectors in Sri Lanka and the Minister emphasized how the development work is being carried out in the Science, Technology, Mathematics and Commerce sectors relevant to the development of the quality of Secondary Education and how the education reforms are being implemented on national and provincial level and how successfully the program of providing educational opportunities and facilities for the teachers and principals to develop the secondary education management capacity.
Director General (South Asia) of the Asian Development Bank said that the bank has provided highest aid to Sri Lanka and the bank can be satisfied with the projects so far implemented.
Director General said the Bank anticipate to provide more assistance to the education, higher education and vocational training projects in the future.
Sri Lankan Director of the Asian Development Bank Chen Chen, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Professor Kapila Perera and the Deputy Director in Sri Lanka Utsav Kumar were also present at the meeting.
