Open University Annual Research Sessions held Via Internet Platform

The Open University Research Sessions 2020 (OURS 2020) were held on November 12th – 13th 2020 with 114 papers delivered over four parallel sessions.
Originally, OURS 2020 was planned as a face-to-face conference to be held at the sprawling OUSL main campus in Nawala. However, due to the current health situation and the health guidelines issued by the state for Covid 19, the conference was moved to a fully online platform making a historic event in OUSL’s 40th year of service to the nation. Over 100 participants participated in the inauguration ceremony and the parallel sessions, which were conducted via the zoom platform operated from the technical labs of the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL). A highlight to this event was the presentation to ten Academics the OUSL Research Awards and the Awards for the OUSL Best Online Course presented to two OUSL Academics.
The presentations that were made covered a wide range of themes among which are Open and Distance Leaning (ODL), Education, English Language Teaching (ELT), Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Physical Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management, and Law.
The Chief Guest at the inauguration of OURS 2020 was Dr. Priyanie Amerasinghe, Emeritus Scientist at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Sri Lanka. The invited keynote speakers for the sessions included Dr. Panduka Karunanayake of the Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and Dr. Prathapasinghe Dharamawansa of the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, University of Moratuwa.
OURS 2020 was a highly successful event amalgamating technology and academia to open new vistas in ODL as well in conducting Academic Conferences while restricting space.
