Inauguration of the 41st Batch of Graduateship in Chemistry

The Inauguration of the 41st batch of GIC – Graduateship in Chemistry was held on January 18 at the PPGL Siriwadane Auditorium, Adamantane House, Rajagiriya.
The chief dignitary for the event was Prof. Nirmali Wickramaratne, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Sabaragamuwa University.
Prof. Nirmali Wickramarathne, being a graduate in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon herself, shared her experiences while inspiring the youngsters in the audiences who were taking their first step towards becoming a graduate chemist.
The event commenced with the ceremonious lighting of the oil lamp.
Prof. Priyani Paranagama, President of institute of Chemistry Ceylon, formally welcomed all the academics, students and parents.
She shared words of wisdom and encouraged the new students to work hard and to do their best.
The Dean of College of Chemical Sciences, Professor Sagarika Ekanayake, delivered the vote of thanks, specifically addressing the new batch with an elaborate motivational speech.
The Graduateship In Chemistry program is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK as a four year BSc.
It is accepted as an alternative qualification to a degree in science with chemistry as a subject by the Public Administration Circular No. 334 (1986) and is considered as having satisfied the basic requirements of registration for a postgraduate program in chemistry of a university leading to a diploma or a degree.
It attracts students from all parts of the island, and is offered for students of both, local as well as London curriculum.
College of Chemical Sciences has produced countless individuals with successful careers worldwide, in both academic and industrial fields.
