NSBM Colour Awards

Ending the year in true spirit of sports, NSBM Green University celebrated the achievements in sports by sportsmen and sportswomen of the university with NSBM Colours 2019.
The grand awards ceremony of colours to 197 colour awardees took place at the university auditorium on December 19 with the participation of Anura Disananyake, Ministry Secretary of Information and Communication Technology and minister of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation as the Chief Guest. The event was made colourful with the presence of the founder/ vice chancellor of NSBM Green University, Prof. E. A. Weerasinghe, deputy vice chancellor; Prof. Chaminda Ratnayake, Head of Academic Development and Quality Assuarance; Prof. Baratha Dodankotuwa and Head of Students Affairs; Mr. Mohamed Shafraz.
The ceremony marked a milestone in NSBM history by being the first colour awarding ceremony which presented colours for 12 sports which included Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Hockey, Martial Arts, Netball, Powerlifting, Rugby, Soccer, Swimming and Table Tennis.
Each sports team was awarded with a best player award which recognised the most dedicated, hardworking and passionate player of the game for 2019. Among many young sportsmen and sportswomen, Mr. Uvindu Jayasinghe was awarded the most outstanding sportsman and Ms. Shamindrie Perera was awarded the most outstanding sportswoman.
Another highlight of the ceremony was the set of awards given to undergraduates with exceptional performances. Recognising the great service rendered for university in the past year for the uplifting of student’s affairs, 18 eligible nominees from different clubs and societies were awarded with certificates of recognition for exceptional performance.
NSBM Green University has always been a pioneer in creating young graduates with extra-curricular backgrounds to enhance their capabilities as global graduates. The university thus, from its inception advocated more than 50 clubs and societies, including 16 sports clubs. 2019 has been a victorious year for these sports clubs, having garnered several tournament championships under the name of the university. Special mention should be made regarding the NSBM Rugby team that became the runners up at 14th UiTM International Sports Fiesta in Malaysia, NSBM girls and boys Basketball teams and NSBM girls and boys athletic teams for emerging double champions at NSBM USPORTS 2019 and NSBM Martial Arts team for becoming champions at National Youth Taekwondo Championship 2019.
