Gateway Celebrates Children’s Day With Robotics and STEAM Activity day

Among the most recognised names in private education in Sri Lanka, Gateway has a long heritage of energising, enlightening and empowering children for the challenges that lay before them. Gateway Group was founded to prepare its students intellectually, emotionally and spiritually to become upstanding citizens.
The STEAM Activity day and Robotics Competition organised in collaboration with Hilton Colombo Kids Club, to commemorate Children’s Day, served as an exploration platform to over 300 children, as they eagerly engaged in many fun activities which triggered their curiosity, creativity and innovative thinking capabilities.
Activities in Drama, Dance, Story Telling, Arts & Crafts, Robotics and STEM, introduced the challenging subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics, through fun activities in a manner that children could easily grasp and enjoy.
The Robotics Competition conducted by Gateway School of Computing in collaboration with My STEM Labs India, had an eager participation from many schools in the Island. The competition was organised to promote Robotics and STEM education in the country, in an interactive competitive platform, by providing students with hands-on experience to design and build programmable robots that can complete an assigned task.
Gateway College, Kandy, won the Championship in the Senior category and Gateway College, Negombo were the Champions of the Junior Category. Yoshida Shokanji International School and Vidura College emerged the 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up respectively in the Senior Category. The 1st Runner up in the Junior category was Alethea International School and another team from Gateway College Negombo were placed 2nd runner up, in the Junior Category
Hilton Awards for the most innovative robot designs of the Senior and Junior categories were awarded to Gateway College, Kandy and Gateway College, Negombo respectively.
Many forward thinking organisations that strive to ignite the innovative skills of the children in Sri Lanka supported this initiative. Hilton Colombo hosted the event as the main sponsor. DFCC Bank and DSI Samson Group co-sponsored the program. Gifts were provided by LEGO, Uswatte Confectionery Works (Pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Biscuits Limited, Maliban Milk Products (Pvt) Ltd and Hameedias. The event was put together by the collective effort of Gateway Centres, located across the island, that offer a broad range of enriching programs for young learners, teenagers, school leavers and professionals, in all areas of STEAM education.
