CINEC Campus Launches a Highly Employable Business Management Degree in Marketing

In a move to fulfill a long felt need in the retail sector CINEC Campus launches a Business Management (Hons) degree program in Marketing. As the retail sector is currently enjoying a rapid growth, CEOs’ are looking for professionals who can deliver specific tasks independently rather than jacks of all trades. Having a degree in Branding and Retail Marketing crafts is a path to employment in any commercial organization. However, because of the specialized knowledge in retail marketing, graduates will have high demand in super market industry. This degree is approved by the UGC and the Ministry of Higher Education and gazetted in Sri Lanka. Many industry experts and university professors have participated in the development of the degree programme and the curriculum. Entry requirement for this degree are GCE A/L examination or any other qualification of comparable standing recognized by UGC of Sri Lanka such as Edexcel / Cambridge with minimum 3 passes in any stream. Since this is a management special degree, it has 4-year duration including a 6-month internship in the fourth year .
According to Ms. Anushka Gunawardana, the coordinator for the degree programme, Colombo, being the major retail center in Sri Lanka, saw increasing investments in new retail ventures in recent years. Out of these new ventures shopping malls take a prominent place. Furthermore, secondary cities such as Kandy, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle and Matara also have on going developments in shopping malls, creating a higher demand for workforce. ‘’However, there seems to be a shortage of required professionals for this industry.
No other university has come forward to cater to this demand but CINEC.’’ She added. Student enrollment for the third intake is currently in progress.
