SLIIT, the leading non-state higher education institute in Sri Lanka has introduced yet another world recognised qualification for students who wish to pursue a career in Nursing. The degree is affiliated to the prestigious Liverpool John Moores University in UK.
The program which spans a duration of 15 months serves as a higher learning opportunity for students who have either completed the diploma in Nursing or those who are practising nurses and wish to obtain an internationally acclaimed training, covering the theory aspect in addition to the practical knowledge.

She along with her colleague were the representatives of LJMU who were present for the orientation programs which were being held at the SLIIT campus in Malabe recently.
She also added that a higher level of thinking analytically translates to the research which is part of the curriculum, which in turn will produce nurses who are better equipped to handle the complex situations they are faced within a highly demanding career. “This will subsequently ensure a better outcome for patients under their care, which is our ultimate goal for all nurses who follow the degree. While the diploma level covers a wide spectrum of knowledge, the Bsc. Nursing Honours Degree program gives an in-depth understanding of nursing which is an innovative profession in the fast-paced world we live in.
Speaking on behalf of SLIIT, its Senior Lecturer- Nursing, Chandrika Dasanayake , MA (Edu), BSc (Nursing), Dip (teaching and Supervision in Nursing) said that the academics conducting the courses are highly qualified professionals who have many years of experience of experience in the field of nursing and lecturing. “SLIIT students are also exposed to the practical platform of nursing during the degree program, making it a holistic form of education guaranteed to benefit the students, the entities they are employed in and the patients. The international affiliation gives the students the capacity to learn from visiting lecturers from the global nursing sphere.”

SLIIT students have the added advantage of being in an academic environment which is conducive for learning and furthering their career prospects, with those following the nursing degree too being provided with numerous resources, such as access to SLIIT’s state-of-the-art laboratory and a virtual learning environment through the LJMU online data base, library, journals, modules and more.
SLIIT BSc (Hons) Nursing reinforces a career aspiration which has undergone tremendous changes and development in the last century. After the 20th century, nursing has undergone tremendous changes and developments. This comprehensive degree program has been opened for nurses recently with greater opportunities for higher studies. Specialty areas, such as critical care, operating theatre, emergency, urology and paediatric advanced training are included in the profession. Novel intellectual practices, including but not limited to nursing research, evidence based nursing, nursing process, nursing audit and quality nursing are also experienced.
Those who are eligible for the program are Registered Nurse of SLNC/ SLMC
those who have completed the three year Diploma in Nursing – Ministry of Health
are awaiting for SLNC registration or working nurses with at least one year working experience in the government health sector.
The course requires competency in the English Language. (IELTS overall band 6)

Clinical affiliation with Browns Healthcare (Pvt) Ltd, Ragama
In addition to the BSc (Hons) Nursing, the Faculty also conducts a three year higher diploma program targeting students who have successfully completed the G.C.E Advanced Level examination in Biological Stream and who pursue a career in the field of Nursing.
In this regard, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between School of Nursing, Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) and Browns Healthcare Pvt Limited, Ragama took place on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 3.00pm in the Main Boardroom of SLIIT.
The purpose of this MoU is to provide opportunities for undergraduate Nursing students at SLIIT, who are following the Higher Diploma in Nursing program leading to BSc (Hons) Nursing of Liverpool John Moores University to gain clinical experience at Browns Hospitals Pvt. Ltd.
The MoU also provides an opportunity for students who successfully complete their clinical training to gain employment at Browns Hospital, Ragama.
