Internships/ Employment & Industry Exposure
According to the HESA Employment Performance Indicator 2018, 95.5% of UCLanGraduates enter employment within 6 months after graduating. The reason behind this impressive statistic can be linked to the highly industry relevant modules which UCLan students learn and also due to UCLan’s commitment in producing work-ready graduates even before they graduate! At UCL, all UCLan students undertake a one-year internship/work-placement programmeduring the third year of their respective degreeswhich is recognised by the University. This is designed to provide an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical work environment and much needed exposure to corporate culture of reputed organisations in diverse sectors and industries.
Our students also undertake summer internships during their summer breaks which keeps them occupied and provides them an opportunity to accumulate work experience. Combining this with the main internship which they undertake after the second year of the four-year degree programmes, will enable our students to receive work experience and exposure that will prepare them to become competent work-ready graduates.
At UCL we adopt a student-centred approach from top management to across the organisation. We always work to identify ways and means to improve our teaching and learning experience in line with internationally standards so that our students can have a great experience during their tenure at UCL. We incorporate experiential learning into their learning methods so that our students will have more practical knowledge based on case studies of real world examples.
At UCL we adopt the small-group teaching methodology where we maintain internationally recommended classroom sizes. This small-group teaching method enables our lecturers to give their utmost attention to each student thereby our students receive 100% individual attention during every lecture. This classroom set-up enables effective interactions among lecturer and student, encourages more group discussions between students and ultimately leading to a great student-lecturer relationship. Due to this reason we have produced 100% pass rates from our UCLan students who had recently completed their first year with the average mark for BA (Hons.) International Business for BSc (Hons.) Software Engineering being 75% and 65% respectively.
