University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), UK entered an exclusive partnership with Universal College Lanka (UCL), Sri Lanka to provide completion degree programmes to the students in the region.
UCLan rests comfortably within the UK’s top 10 modern universities. It also secures a ranking of 67th (The Guardian University Guide 2018) as one of the most improved universities having leaped 20 places up to its current position. The University has students and researchers from over 100 countries and has successfully established partnerships with 125 international institutions.
Expanding the opportunities for students in the region, the new partnership will now allow students to gain exposure and be qualified with a globally recognised Degree right here in Sri Lanka. Initially the programmes delivered by UCLan in Sri Lanka are Bachelor of Science Software Engineering (Hons) and Bachelors of Arts International Business (Hons). Students can join these programmes either after A/L’s directly into the first year of the degree or after O/L’s with a UCL International Foundation Year (UIFY) entry option.
The undergraduate programmes delivered in Sri Lanka will be completely internal degree programmes from the university where quality and delivery managed directly by the university (UCLan). Undergraduate programmes offered in Sri Lanka by University of Central Lancashire
With the new partnership in Sri Lanka, UCLan will initially be offering two (2) undergraduate programmes.
1. BSc (Hons) Software
The Degree program is designed to equip students with technical, analytical and soft skills that are needed to build, operate and manage software systems successfully.
2. BA (Hons) International Business
This Degree programme is designed to cover economical, technological and institutional dimensions that are necessary to succeed in the competitive world of international business
Internationally and Locally Recognized Degrees
University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is officially accredited/recognised by the highest authority to approve/accredit tertiary education qualifications in the UK, the Privy Council (is a formal body of advisers to the Sovereign of the United Kingdom) and is also listed in the ‘International Handbook of Universities’. This confirms that the degrees that are awarded by the university are both internationally recognized and locally recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka.

The completion degree programmes delivered in Sri Lanka are the exact same programmes delivered in the UK and the final degree is awarded by the University of Central Lancashire, UK. Students will be enrolled to the degree programme from day 1 of the programme.
UCLan ID and access to UCLan resources
From day 1, students will be the students of the university and will be given a University ID which will provide access to all university online resources from Sri Lanka aside to the many facilities and resources offered by UCL, Sri Lanka.
Curriculum and Exams from UCLan
The curriculum delivered in Sri Lanka is the exact same syllabus delivered to the students in the UK. The final exam papers will be prepared and sent by the University in the UK. The programme commencement date/ exams dates will all be identical to the university dates in the UK.
UCLan approved Lecture Panel
The lecture panel at UCL are all UCLan approved academia who are highly qualified in their respective fields of expertise.
These lecturers will be directly working with their counterparts at the university in the UK. UCLan students can expect to receive insightful knowledge in terms of practical and theory based learning that would ensure the application of knowledge via assignments and examinations.
Small Group Teaching
UCLan is ranked in the Top 20 UK universities for small group teaching, thus the batch size for the intakes are limited to 30 students per batch.
The objective is to increase the individual attention which will in turn increase the student learning experience and the overall quality of the graduate.
Internship/ Industrial placement year
The University of Central Lancashire is known to produce highly employable graduates, and in view of increasing the employability of the graduates from the programme, an industrial placement year (48 weeks) with partnered blue chip companies is included in the programme.
This feature of the degree programmes is perhaps the most important as it will allow students to gain valuable workplace skills and experience in Sri Lanka and will increase the employability of the graduate.
The internship will be sourced and assisted by UCL to all undergraduates studying in the programmes.
Duration of the programmes
The programmes delivered by UCLan via UCL in Sri Lanka will be conducted full time. The duration of the programmes will be 4 years (Full Time). However, in the event a student opts out of the industrial placement year the programmes could be completed in 3 years.
Transferring to the University
Since the programme is completely internal, students could transfer to the university in the UK any time after the year 1 of the programme and it’ll be treated as an internal transfer. All formalities in this regard will be handled by UCL, Sri Lanka for the student.
With the participation of senior academics from the university, UCLan will be holding a graduation for each batch graduating from the programmes on an annual basis. Also, students could opt to graduate in the University in the UK.

Selected number of scholarships and study grants, up to 50% are available for students with exceptional academic, leadership and extra-curricular activities to pursue a Top UK University Degree in Sri Lanka.
